Embracing Peace sculpture in Omaha until January
The Omaha Parks Foundation wanted this traveling statue, Embracing Peace by Seward Johnson Atelier, to mark Memorial Park’s 75th anniversary. It was slated to leave in mid-November just after Veterans Day. The Executive Director of the Omaha Parks Foundation met 6 News at the park and revealed that we now have permission to keep it until early 2024.
President Truman’s grandson, Nebraska dignitaries among those marking the 75th anniversary of Memorial Park
On Sunday, we went back in time to June of 1948 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Memorial Park. It was originally created as a memorial for the men and women from Douglas County who served during World War II. The park was dedicated by President Truman in 1948. It was rededicated by President Truman’s grandson 75 years later, in 2023.

Despite the downpour Sunday, the re-dedication celebration at Memorial Park went on. It also commemorated the 75th anniversary of the area dedicated to those who served in World War II.
Truman visited Omaha 75 years ago for a military reunion and to dedicated a city landmark
On Sunday, Clifton Truman Daniel, a writer and public relations executive, will take part in a ceremony to mark the 75th anniversary of the park’s dedication on June 5, 1948 by his grandfather, former President Harry S. Truman.
Rededicating Memorial Park on its 75th anniversary
Kissing Sailor Statue, otherwise known as “Embracing Peace,” is a temporary installation here until November 15th of 2023. On June fourth, Omaha Parks Foundation will be rededicating Memorial Park with the new plaza.

Omaha’s Memorial Park will celebrate 75 years in grand style. The city and the Omaha Parks Foundation have planned a rededication, a museum exhibit and several attractions to celebrate the milestone.
“I think he’s smiling down, right?” | Corporal Daegan Page Memorial Scoreboard Dedication
The family of a fallen U.S. Marine give back to the Omaha community Sunday with the dedication of the “Corporal Daegan Page Memorial Scoreboard.” Page was one of 13 servicemembers killed in an attack at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan in 2021. His family said they were overwhelmed by the community’s support after the attack, and they wanted to find a way to give back.
Parkside Park South | Omaha woman on a mission to renovate underutilized park on her own
If you’re near the Parkside neighborhood in West Omaha and walk Pine Street and 141st Circle Drive, you probably haven’t noticed a hidden park called Parkside South. As you get up close, it’s not really clear whether it has playground equipment or gym equipment. One woman is on a mission to renovate this underutilized park.
