Omaha Parks Foundation is set for the 5th Annual Road to Omaha® Run presented by Northwestern Mutual

June 21, 2015- Baseball Themed Run/Walk Will be Held on Father’s Day Morning— A Home Run for Dad!

(Omaha, NE) –Celebrate a unique event with Dad during the best of Father’s Day weekend in Omaha at the College World Series.The Omaha Parks Foundation is a proud beneficiary for the Road to Omaha® Run presented by Northwestern Mutual, the NCAA® and College World Series, Inc.®,on Sunday, June 21st.

The 5K Run/Walk begins and ends near the Lewis and Clark Landing and is highlighted by a lap around TD Ameritrade Park Omaha with all runners displayed on the CWS video board. This year runners will also get to experience the thrill of being an NCAA student-athlete at the Opening Ceremonies by running through the CWS inflatable tunnel complete with smoke machines.

“We are pleased to again be a part of this year’s 5K event, which will support the efforts to enhance the quality of Omaha’s Park System,” said Tiffany Regan, Vice President of the Omaha Parks Foundation. “The Omaha Parks Foundation is dedicated to supporting families and fun and we encourage the Omaha community to come out and support the cause by taking part in this great CWS tradition. This year’s event will be held Father’s Day morning, bringing together the great tradition of baseball, Father’s Day and the start of summer.”

The 5K run begins on the Riverfront Drive Trail just west of the Lewis and Clark Landing at 8:30 a.m. CT. Running along the Riverfront Drive Trail to the Abbott Drive Trail, participants will enjoy great views of downtown Omaha and TD Ameritrade Park. Next, runners will enter the stadium for a complete lap around the field on the warning track where they can see themselves on the big screen. They will then proceed south to Heartland of America Park, over the pedestrian bridge to finish on the Boardwalk overlooking the Lewis and Clark Riverfront Landing and the Missouri River. All participants receive a free event performance t-shirt.

Participants are encouraged to register for the run at, but can register at the packet pickup on Friday, June 19, from 11a.m. to 6p.m. or Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge Plaza. Runners who are unable to register ahead of time can also register between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. on the morning of the event.

Male and female winners in the overall, 18 and younger and 40 and older categories will each receive two tickets to Game 2 of the College World Series finals. Remaining age group winners will receive College World Series mementos. Prizes will also be awarded for best baseball-themed costumes.

Proceeds for this year’s event will benefitAlex’s Lemonade Stand and the Omaha Parks Foundation (OPF). Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), Northwestern Mutual’s nonprofit partner, is dedicated to finding new treatments and ultimately cures for all kids with cancer. In total, Northwestern Mutual has raised more than $7 million to help ease the financial and emotional impacts of childhood cancer on families and children, more than 50,000 hours to help advance research for life-saving projects.

Omaha Parks Foundation (OPF) mission is to bring together and allocate resources necessary to enhance the quality of Omaha’s park system. Omaha Parks Foundation (OPF) recognizes the financial challenges of the Parks & Recreation Department, and presents an opportunity to gain support for special park projects that cannot be addressed by the city budget. OPF and the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department are currently working to renovate 14 park playgrounds. Additionally, one of the important projects OPF will undertake is to create awareness and obtain financial support to address the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) epidemic that will soon be affecting the Omaha community.
