The Omaha Parks Foundation is a proud beneficiary for the Road to Omaha® Run presented by Northwestern Mutual and the NCAA®, College World Series, Inc.® ,on Sunday, June 22nd. The 5K Run/Walk begins and ends near the Lewis and Clark Landing and is highlighted by a lap around TD Ameritrade Park Omaha with all runners displayed on the CWS video board.
“We are pleased to be a part of this year’s 5K event, which will support the efforts to enhance the quality of Omaha’s Park System,” said Paul Jeffrey, president of the Omaha Parks Foundation. “The Omaha Parks Foundation is dedicated to supporting kids, families and fun and encourage the Omaha community to come out and support the cause and take part in this newest CWS tradition.”
This year’s event will feature local celebrities including Omaha’s own Eric Crouch. The Heisman Trophy winner and Omaha Dad will be running the race to support the Omaha Parks Foundation and building safe, fun playgrounds for our kids.
The 5K run begins on the Riverfront Drive Trail just west of the Lewis and Clark Landing at 8:30 a.m. Central time. Running along the Riverfront Drive Trail to the Abbott Drive Trail, participants will enjoy great views of downtown Omaha and TD Ameritrade Park. Next, runners will enter the stadium for a complete lap around the field on the warning track where they can see themselves on the big screen. They will then proceed south to Heartland of America Park, over the pedestrian bridge to finish on the Boardwalk overlooking the Lewis and Clark Riverfront Landing and the Missouri River.
Participants can still register for the run at the pre-package pickup on Friday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lewis and Clark Landing. Runners who are unable to register ahead of time can register between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. on the morning of the event or during the CWS Fan Fest.
Male and female winners in the overall, 18 and younger and 40 and older categories will each receive two tickets to Game 2 of the College World Series Finals. Remaining age group winners will receive College World Series mementos. Prizes will also be awarded for best baseball-themed costumes as well.
Proceeds for this year’s event will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand and the Omaha Parks Foundation, whose mission is to bring together and allocate resources necessary to enhance the quality of Omaha’s park system. The Omaha Parks Foundation and the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department are currently working to renovate 15 park playgrounds and the development of the USS Omaha (SSN 692) Memorial.
